Re: WELCOME TO ACES

I have two Brittanies both from the Am Brittany Rescue (ABR) and one English Setter (The Princess), I transport for ABR and would like to help with your setters. Pete

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters~

Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

fun site

Just stopping by to adore the setters (everyday!), those waiting for homes as well as those already in forever homes. Thanks for all who foster and post pictures and profiles. I love stopping by and seeing the pictures especially the ones of the setters interacting with others. It really gives more insight into their personalities! I do not have a setter but am anxiously waiting for the day when I can adopt one or hopefully two.

Thanks ACES for having this site and all you do.

I am so grateful to ACES

There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't visit the web site and day dream that Dolly and I could rescue every available setter and give them that forever home. I know in my heart that we can't , but I am so grateful for everything you do for these little kids!!!

Thanks for all you do

Just stopping by, keep up the great work! The great temperament possessed by English Setters is truly unique in the dog world. They have great insight into the human soul. I do not think I could ever live my life completley without one to help me through. I'd like to share a poem, for I know you will understand:
THE JEWEL AT MY BED

I stood beside your bed last night, I came to have a look.
You were trying not to cry; I know how much it took.

I whined to you so softly as you brushed away the tears,
“It’s me, I haven’t left you. I’m fine, I’m well, I’m here.

I was close to you this morning, although you didn't see,
You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you in the field today, your legs were getting sore.
I longed to find the birds for you, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, I am not lying there.

I hunted with you this afternoon, the air was crisp and cool.
I quickly found the birds for you, I smiled and said “It’s Jewel.”

I followed you to the house, as you fumbled for the key.
I gently put my paw on you, I barked and said “It’s me!”

You looked so very tired as you sank into your chair.
I tried so hard to tell you that I was standing there.

It is possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To tell you with certainty, “I never went away.”

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of the evening that I was close to you.

Now the day is over...I stretch and watch you yawning
I say “goodnight, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.

And when the time is right for you to cross the great divide
I’ll rush down to greet you and we’ll be side by side.

I have so many birds to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home to hunt with me.

My Best Buddy

I have a 3 y/o english setter named Dudley. I am so happy I have him. We do everything together. we swim in the pool, ride in the truck, and atv together. You heard me correctly he actually sits on the atv and rides when he gets tired of running. Now if I can only get him to wear a helmet and goggles! I will adopt a setter when the time is right. I think its great that other people are as passionate about english setters as I am.

I never knew!

I was unaware that english setters needed to be rescued. I currently have two 5 year old females, my first english setter past away last year, he was almost 16. When we are ready for a new pup/dog we will definitely contact you. Thanx for all you do.

Great Web Site

I was browsing the internet for English Setter rescues. We lost our Isabelle in May to cancer. She was a rescued English Setter, and we miss her immensely. We have three other permanent dogs (and two fosters), but none can replace what Izzy brought to our lives. One day I think I would love to adopt another Setter. She was just such a special spirit and so beautiful. You have a great web site. Thank you for all that you do to save these lovely dogs!
