Emma is a 7-yearold tri-color girl. She weighs about 42 pounds, but still needs to put on several pounds. Emma has an excellent energy level. She likes to go for walks. She loves to have her ears rubbed and coat brushed. She will lean on you and put her head in your lap for attention, but she does not get on the furniture. When she isn’t getting petted or chewing on a rawhide, Emma will quiet down for a nap. Emma settles in her crate after a few minutes and stays there while the foster family is away.
Emma is good around the house. She loves spending time with her foster family’s children and cats. Emma sometimes picks up children’s toys by mistake, but gives them up easily once she is spotted. She seems to want to play with the family cats. So, an adoptive family with no cats or cats that are quite accustomed to dogs would be ideal. She gets along with the other dogs in her foster home and dogs she has met on walks. She does not romp or play with her foster siblings, though.
Emma has become quite adept at climbing her foster family’s three-and-a half foot split-rail style fence. She will need a solid fence at least 5 feet tall. She is learning the electronic fence that surrounds her foster home; an invisible fence is an option for her but she will still need training on it.
Emma is a quick learner. She has learned the commands “come,” “no,” “back” (away from the door), and her name in just a few weeks at her foster home. We are working on sit.
We don’t know Emma’s history; we only know that she was picked up as a stray. Once she came to ACES, the vet removed three low grade mammary tumors, in addition to two growths on Emma's backside. Emma is doing well since her surgery. The pathology report indicates no cancerous cells in the surrounding areas. Emma has a bright future now that she is in rescue. She is just looking for a family to share her new life.
Jeffrey Headley hopes that Emma's bright future starts very soon with a loving forever family!
