Tommy is a very gentle and very sweet, four-year old blue Belton English Setter. He weighs about 45 pounds. He’s also a very quiet dog, who rarely barks. Tommy is housebroken and quite calm in the house. He is happy to curl up by your feet and will follow you from room to room as you move about the house. When he’s outside he loves to play with his chuck-it balls and roadkill toys. His foster brother even taught him how to go pick out a toy and wait by the back door with it in his month. He comes to heel with a simple whistle.
Tommy gets along great with his two foster brothers. He knows that one is older and doesn’t play much and that the other one will play tug of war all day with him. He shares his toys well and respects the other dogs. He’s prone to chasing and ‘setting’ his feline foster siblings when he’s feeling playful, but has shown no intention of hurting them.
Tommy is happy to meet new people, and the vet staff has become quite enamored with him. He was a bit shy when he first came to his foster family but opened up quickly. The longer he has been here, the more open is he is and the less shy he is with new situations. He’s not a jumper and is very polite with new introductions. Once he trusts you, you have him completely.
He does need some basic obedience training, but he is getting better about walking on a leash and sitting and waiting for food time. He has counter-surfed a couple times, and we are actively working with him on that. He’s been a great dog to have around the house. He is very endearing and I think he would make any family a wonderful dog, whether it is a family with children, a couple or a single adult.
Steve, Teri and Miss Sophia Sauer hope that sweet Tommy finds a wonderful forever home very soon!
