Jeremy is a beautiful tri-colored English setter who is about 1 year old, weighing 37 pounds. He was left during the night in an outdoor pen at a shelter. So Jeremy comes to us with no known history. He has been neutered and all of his shots and testing were brought up to date.
Jeremy is currently living with his Foster Mother and her two setters Hanna and Hunter who are two and a half years old, and two rescue cats. He very quickly became good buddies with Hanna and Hunter. He has even been next door visiting with their brother Kootenay, and Kootenay’s Mom and Dad and their two teen boys, whom he gets along well with. Jeremy socializes well with people, kids and dogs.
However, Jeremy does not seem to understand that cats are our friends and we recommend that Jeremy goes to a home without cats. The cats at his foster home are hoping he will be adopted soon.
Jeremy was probably an outside dog with little training. He did not know the basic commands of sit or come and was not housetrained. But boy, is he smart! He has already learned the electronic fence and is conquering the concepts of sit, stay, come, and go potty. He is also happily learning all about treats. He is either training his Foster Mom to be house broken or he is learning that task fairly well. Jeremy also responds to the command of “trade” when he has his Mom’s shoes or other things he should not have. He’s getting better at learning what is okay to have. He has not learned the command of off yet and needs some encouragement to get “off”.
Just one year old, Jeremy is still a puppy - full of curiosity and energy so will need space to run and explore. He finally found his voice after about 3 days, but only barks when his foster brother and sister bark. He loves toys, such as balls, squeaky toys, chew toys, and sticks (when his foster sister allows him to keep them).
Jeremy loves attention and to be with you. He loves to have his chest and ears rubbed, but no kisses. He snuggles in bed or on your lap when watching TV. Jeremy travels well but often wants to sit on your lap then too.
Jeremy is just such a wonderful pup. He will make a good addition to any family that does not have cats. As with all dogs, he will need love, attention, boundaries, and treats. Since he is young and only just learning commands, a positive reinforcement obedience class would be good for him.
Steve, Teri & Miss Sophia Sauer hope that Jeremy will be getting lots of chest and ear rubs from his forever family very soon!
