It’s hard to know where to begin talking about this incredibly handsome, 77 pound, 6 year old, blue belton setter, Pike. His markings are as beautiful as his personality.
This sweet boy is totally house-trained. While he will go in a crate, he is quite unhappy in one, and because he’s so trustworthy in the house, there is no need to crate him. I leave all the pups gated in our kitchen/sunroom area and they are all fine. He was not an indoor dog when he arrived, but he adjusted immediately. He sleeps in his bed like our other two in our bedroom at night. He loves being inside and really loves the sofa. Just take a look at some of his pictures. He’s quite happy outside too and has never tried to jump or dig.
Pike has learned our routine quickly and really goes along with everything. He loves being petted and massaged. He loves to play with toys, and usually has one in his mouth when he greets you. He tugs at your sleeve, gently, when he wants attention. He will fetch a toy that’s thrown for him and bring it back – he really enjoys the game. He “sits” for treats and “comes” nicely. “Down” and “stay” aren’t yet in his repertoire, but we’re working on those.
He’s a great eater and doesn’t mind at all if one of his foster siblings approaches while he’s eating – they’re just waiting for him to finish so they can lick his bowl. He’s so loving and just wants to be close to his humans or his foster siblings. If he’s lying next to me, and I leave the room, I’ll turn around after a couple of minutes and there he’ll be.
Pike is a big boy and will need exercise – walking or running daily. He walks great on a leash and loves it when he knows we’re going out. He’s just a little birdie, so we keep a close eye on him. He really is quite the gentleman, though; almost every time I have him out (which is every day), someone stops to ask about him. Such a handsome boy!
It would be nice for Pike to be with a family who has another dog and where one parent is home. He’s very friendly and thrives on the companionship. He should also be with a family with older children (12 yrs or more).
This is a wonderful setter looking for the right family. If you’re looking for a silky-soft, gentle, loving, good-hearted friend, Pike is your man!
Rick & Connie Wenger hope that Pike finds his perfect forever family soon!
