Sophie's name fits her well as she is very wise like the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Sophia! This one year old, 30-lb, tri-colored girl is a quick learner and has mastered the concept of living in a house. Sophie came to us with very little manners. She seemed to think nothing of jumping around, including getting up on the table. In her very short time of being in a stable environment, Sophie has gone from "Pole Dancer" to "Pol-ite Setter!"
Sophie seems to believe the Rosetta Stone language learning CDs for humans must have a version of "Ro-Setter Stone" as she prefers to Uh-rooo, rather then bark. It's as if she wants to talk to you via roo'ing versus barking at you. This girl wants to have conversations! She will also roo at the door when she needs to go out. She is trained on the dog door and is crate trained. Sophie will cry if she cannot see you while she is in the crate but settles down if you can ignore a few minutes of whimpering. Sophie is now eating with our dogs and has been left alone for up to six hours. She is uncrated and well behaved.
Sophie's foster family believes she would be an ideal candidate for someone who is athletic and would enjoy spending time with her. She would love to be with you in the backyard, go on long walks (most likely with a harness to curb her enthusiasm), or take an obedience class and possibly agility classes. Sophie would be the happiest with a home that has another dog with her same hobbies: bird watching and butterfly chasing in a fenced in yard. When inside, Sophie loves her stuffed squeaky toys. She will squeak and squeak and squeak, all without destuffing!
Sophie get's very excited while setting birds & butterflies. Her foster home believes because of this intensity, she would run through an invisible fence at the flutter of a butterfly wing. A physical fence is a must.
Sophie is a young girl looking for fun and a family to call her own!
Deb O'Day and her setters, Clancey and Barkley, hope that Sophie finds her forever home soon!
