NILES is a wonderful smaller tri-colored neutered male. He is personality plus!!! His estimated age is 4-5 years, but acts like a puppy. He is crate-trained and we are working on house-training. Niles will go into the crate when asked to "kennel up!" and doesn't make a fuss or a sound, or tear up his bedding while in his kennel.
Niles has absolutely no problems with our cats and looks away if another dog even thinks of getting in his face. He does love to run and run and run! He also loves to pick up personal articles (shoes, jackets, cat beds, blankets) and drag them around or lie with them. Niles loves to surround himself with a ton of toys - squeaky tennis balls, stuffed squeakies (or de-squeakied!) - are all fun...but, he will find other "toys" which may NOT be doggie acceptable, if given the chance.
Niles' nose is just at counter height when he's standing. While he's been seen "counter-surfing" for goodies, he's too short to do much about it. However, it may simply be his inquisitiveness as we are unsure if he has had much exposure to indoor living. So, in some ways, Niles IS like a puppy. He needs to be taught that he can't have some things but he is a quick and willing learner.
Niles generally comes when he is called and will sit at your feet. He is a leaner and a snuggler. Niles does not startle easily and is not reactive when he does get surprised (he freezes up). Niles is gentle, generally pretty quiet, and a sturdy guy who would love to have lots and lots of hugs all the time. You'll just have to make sure the kid's toys don't become NILES' toys! If you've never had a setter before, you'll fall in love with the breed with this little guy!
Niles sends a big thank you to his special friend, Jeffrey Headly!
