Hey y'all, I'm SOPHIE. Foster mom said I had to stop running around the yard for just a minute and tell you about me. I'm pretty and smart and sweet, and I wanna be your dog. I like to snuggle with my person, play tug, chew on bones, and patrol the yard for birds and critters. I have a very pretty point, if I do say so myself. Okay gotta go, I've got ropes to tug and birds to point.
Foster mom here:
Sophie is truly one cool dog. She's a pretty liver/white girl with a gorgeous full tail that's always wagging. Sophie is a very busy girl - always exploring, running or playing. She does know how to settle down and will happily sit next to you on the couch for her share of belly rubs. She's one of those special dogs who can go 100 miles an hour outside, then come inside and snuggle up in your lap.
Sophie was very skinny when she came into rescue. She’s been gaining weight nicely and now weighs 45 lbs. Sophie is very smart and knows sit, down, kennel up, and come. She is house-trained, but she will still need a crate because she uses it as her safe and calm zone. She eats in her crate, as she gets too distracted and forgets to eat otherwise. She sleeps in her crate, and she lay down in there when she needs to be by herself. When she gets wound up, I also use her crate to settle Sophie down.
Sophie is very birdy and loves to run around the yard chasing the birds as they fly overhead. She will run laps around my yard until she's ready to drop. Once she's had her fill of running, she will come inside, and either curl up in a dog bed, play with a tug, chew on a bone, or sit next to me on the couch. She really loves to snuggle and is perfectly happy either sitting in someone's lap or laying next to them with her head in their lap. She's good with kids and has gone to several rescue events and done exceptionally well with new people and new environments. She does like to jump up on people, but she will sit when asked. Sophie could really benefit from going through a basic obedience class with her new family.
Sophie is also very playful and loves to play ball. She will bat and toss the ball around, entertaining herself for quite a while. While she likes to play, Sophie does not like to share her toys. I have picked them all up and I'm slowly working with her to teach her not to go after the other dogs if they walk by her toys. Sophie is getting much better about guarding, but it is a work in progress. Her family will need to continue to work on her toy possessiveness in her new home. Because of her high prey-drive, she will also need a home without small dogs, cats or pocket pets. She thinks they make a better snack than a friend!
If you're looking for a running buddy, or just a dog to keep you active and on your toes, Sophie is the dog for you. You definitely won’t be bored with Sophie around!
