Introducing "Trooper" RANDY! Oh, what a soul this little freckle faced boy has! Randy is a small orange belton English Setter, weighing in at 40 pounds of love. Our vet places him at about 12 to 18 months old. We don't know a lot about Randy before he came to us. We do know that he was scared and needed some confidence building. We also don't think that he had ever been in a house before he came to us. During the past month, Randy has transitioned like a real "trooper." He learned to use the doggie doors and took to housetraining right away. He has not had one accident in the house. Randy has also begun basic leash and obedience training and is responding well. He is one very smart cookie.

Although, Randy is a little timid when he first meets people, he is very outgoing with dogs. He has fit into his foster family of three dogs very well, showing lots of enthusiasm. In fact, Randy takes a lot of comfort in having other dogs around. His favorite playmate is his 140 lb St. Bernard foster brother. Randy would do best in a home with at least one other dog to show him the ropes. New people still cause him a little stress, but Randy recovers quickly. It is AMAZING the progress he has made in one month while in a stable environment. If you give him a little patience, he responds like a "trooper." Randy likes children and loves to play. He also loves to roll over and have his belly rubbed. If you are looking for a cuddly, energetic young man, Randy is ready and waiting!

UPDATE 10/10

Just thought you'd like to know that Beau (Randy) is doing well. He is such a softie and the most wonderful dog. He just loves everyone. We can't thank you enough for rescuing this angel. I have attached a couple of photos of our little handsome boy.

Take care,
Mark & Mary

Randy is loving being a family house dog. He has a real "I'm good with that" attitude. You want a dog that sits pretty waiting for his special treat? Randy says "I'm good with that!" Want a dog that will relax with you on a lazy day? Randy says "I'm good with that!" Randy is an all around great little dog. He loves to play, relax and generally have a good time. Randy has learned soft mouth. Not even a tooth on your fingers during treat time. Randy sits patiently waiting for his dinner bowl amongst all the other dogs. He is still shy around strangers but will take a belly rub and some love from them with no problem. Randy continues to develop in his social skills and is a perfectly lovely companion. He would be a wonderful addition to any family.

Jerry Mead and Patty Thompson hope you find a loving family to give you belly rubs to your heart's content!

Beau (the former Randy) is our little lover dog ... we are sooooo in love with him and he has dovetailed so seamlessly into our lives that we can't remember life before him!  He has helped us and our Beth through the grieving process following Belle's death and we couldn't believe what a wonderful tonic he has been for us all.  Needless to say, all my extended family love him too!  Have a look at this picture of him taken one hour after we arrived back in Richmond after collecting him in Charleston ... and this is the dog who was supposed to have social issues!!!
