"You've come a long way, BUDDY!" That's our new tag line for this very handsome and sweet, 4-year old English Setter. Since arriving in rescue several months ago following the death of his owner, Buddy has slowly recovered from losing the person who meant everything to him. As he has settled in, his goofy, fun-loving personality has emerged, and he has allowed himself to love again. Buddy is a very special dog, and we want the best for him. If you have the patience, love, and calm leadership to help Buddy work through the next, and last, transition in his life to a forever home, you will be richly rewarded with a wonderful companion.
Buddy is very intelligent and learns quickly. He knows several words (sit, down, come, settle, inside, outside, bedtime and kennel up). He is very birdy, and will spend hours pointing and chasing our barn pigeons. When a bird is brave enough to walk around on the ground, Buddy will point and slowly creep towards it until it flies off. He is a joy to watch. We have fostered several ACES setters, and while they have all been wonderful and energetic dogs, Buddy is definitely a true "bird dog". And after finishing his job of keeping the pesky pigeons in check, he is content to be a "couch potato" and lay next to you with his head in your lap.
Initially wary of strangers, once he has been introduced to visitors, Buddy relaxes and has been friendly to everyone he has met. He weighs 65 lbs. and is very exuberant, though, and occasionally will jump up in greeting. He could easily knock over a small child, so he will not be placed in a home with young children.
Buddy isn't very skilled at speaking doggy language or playing with other dogs, so we believe Buddy would be happiest as an only dog. If you are looking for one very special dog to share your life with, look no further. He's right here, waiting to be discovered.
For those adopters who like to cook, here is Buddy's "recipe for success":
- 2 cups exercise
- 2 cups love
- 2 cups positive reinforcement training
- A kong, some kibble, cheese cubes and a dollop of cream cheese
- A few stuffie toys to carry around (and hide)
Mix together well. Batter will be lumpy at first. Stir lovingly every day. In time, you will have the perfect dog.
Buddy sends a big thank you to his special friend, Jeffrey Headly!
