EVAN got his name because he was found at Evan's Feed in town. Before that, Evan had been seen running down the train tracks that run through this small rural city. Where he came from or where he thought he was going, no one knew; so, off to the city shelter, he went and Evan, he became.
No tags, no collar, no microchip. The shelter was amazed that such a beautiful boy would wind up in the shelter, he was clean, well fed and in good shape. They hoped his owners were looking for him and the days turned to weeks, the weeks to months, it was obvious that no owner was coming, so, Evan came to rescue.
It's amazing, how easily we forget how good our own dogs have it and what a joy it is to see a dog, fresh from a shelter, blossom into a much loved, spoiled, house dog. That's what happened with Evan. Even though he had been in the shelter for a long while, it took only days for Evan to show us what a great dog he really is, he was so appreciative of everything that was done for him. He scored an A+++ at the vet that neutered him, everyone loved Evan.
Evan is a delight, he'll make the right family a wonderful companion. He's got the typical Setter energy, full on when necessary, but he's happy to plop down and relax. You want someone to run with? Evan would be happy running along side you.
We taught him "sit" on the first try, now he'll do it on command. Evan loves to chew on knuckle bones, rawhides, he loves to play with toys, when you throw a ball, he'll chase it until he drops from exhaustion but he's not obsessive about the ball. He's content to plop down and play with his toys. He delights in digging in the toy basket, as if he's looking for just the right toy, it's as if he discovers something new on every visit. They scatter the toys all over, we pick them up and put them back in the basket and the game begins anew. His absolute favorite is the stuffed possum.
Evan learned the doggie door in just a couple of days and it makes us smile to look up and see him trot past the window, on his way to do his business, then, he'll come racing back and in the doggie door with a thump and be back at your feet, happily chewing or napping.
He loves other dogs, he's got puppy dog enthusiasm, so, he'll want to play, even when our old guys are just wanting to nap. Evan's learned to take cues from them, that when they don't get up and play, it's time for some quiet time. Evan is a very young guy, he's past puppyhood, but he's not much more than an overgrown pup. The vet guessed his age to be from 1 to 2 years.
Evan has a real love of water, he likes to stand on the steps of our pool and cool off. He will follow you around the yard while you're working but he's not a pest. We've taught him that a crate is not a bad thing, Evan settles quietly in his crate and will go in willingly with a treat.
He's been an easy foster, Evan really is a big love sponge. He loves to sit next to you and get scratched, he loves to be brushed and he'll let you play with his feet with no problem.
Evan is black/white, approximately 1 to 2 years old, he's neutered, heartworm negative, crate trained, he eats twice a day, with treats for good behavior. He's got a wonderful Setter personality, he's happy and sweet. Evan just finds joy in everything.
