Smokey is a very handsome 8 year-old tri-colored male Setter. He’s in perfect shape and has the quintessential Setter good looks and loving personality.

Before coming to ACES, Smokey lived his entire life in an outdoor kennel, so he had to learn the ropes of being an inside dog. Because Smokey is so eager to please, it didn’t take him long at all to learn how to be a perfect gentleman in the house. Smokey is also the perfect outside dog. He is fairly mellow in the yard and is very low on the “birdy” scale. Every once in a while, Smokey will get caught up in searching for critters and pretend not to hear us calling him inside, but he definitely prefers to be inside lounging next to his foster dad’s feet. There are many, many times that Smokey will walk outside, realize that his foster mom isn’t going outside with him, and then quickly make a U-turn and head back inside. This inside-dog life is turning Smokey into a big ole Softy!

Smokey is one of the most low-energy, mellow, easy-going Setters we’ve ever had the privilege to foster. Don’t get me wrong, when it’s time to play, Smokey can keep up with the best of them! But he’s also just as content to chill’ at our feet. Smokey is extremely loyal and affectionate to his people. As you can see from his pictures, Smokey has such deep, beautiful brown eyes, it’s easy to see that he wants nothing more than attention and love and wants to give 150% in return. If given a choice, Smokey would love nothing better than to take every step we take and follow our every move. In fact, if you were to look up “Velcro dog” in the dictionary, it would probably have Smokey’s picture there. We can tell that he’s always happy because his tail is like a constant metronome around the house. It’s always wagging, and not in the typical Setter “knock everything off the coffee table” way, but in a gentle, constant wag that keeps a light, gentle breeze flowing through the room.

Smokey is a good citizen all the way around. When we take him to the off-leash dog park, he is the perfect gentleman. He hunts in the woods but then is quick to settle down and seek out his family. Smokey is friendly with both people and other dogs at the park, and most importantly, makes us look good by coming when he’s called.  And whenever there’s fun or excitement in the air - Smokey bounds off, side-by-side with his foster siblings, with a funny, bouncy gate – reminding us of that bouncy character from Winnie The Pooh. For an 8 year-old dog, Smokey has no problem showing off his inner child and plays with the exuberance of a puppy with his foster siblings!

You might be thinking that you want a younger Setter, but make no mistake, Smokey is the perfect age. He’s way past all of that young Setter nonsense and is ready to be a gentle, loyal companion to his Forever Family. Honestly, Setters just don’t get much better than him. Smokey would make a wonderful, loving addition to any family. So if you are looking for a sweet, handsome, loyal family pet, please consider giving Smokey a chance.
