Howie is a big beautiful 7 year old tri-colored English setter who was turned into a shelter.  When he came into foster care, he was very thin.  But he has started to fill out and weighs about 54 pounds.  He has a beautiful block head and big feet.  His coat is now clean, soft, and beautiful.  He is healthy and looks much younger than his 7 years.

We do not think Howie was an indoor dog, as he had to learn indoor manners.  Howie is a big boy, which made it easy for him to counter surf when he first got to his foster home.  He has learned not to do this, but like many dogs, he sometimes needs a reminder.  He has not had any accidents in a long time.  Howie is very even tempered.  He likes all people but has not had a chance to spend time with young children.  He cannot get enough love and is constantly asking to be petted or snuggling next to you on the couch or bed.  If there is not enough room, he squeezes himself in.  For this reason, he would do best in a home where someone is around more often. 

Howie was very curious about all the “things” in the house at first – toys, but also shoes, quilting materials, and pillows.  Fortunately, he is good natured about giving up the things he tries, and learned quickly what was okay and what was not.  He now likes to go to the toy basket and pick out something to play with.  He especially likes tennis balls and toys with stuffing.  He gets excited when new toys are brought out and seems to like the variety. 

He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home.  They all like to spend time outside running and chasing whatever is in the yard or air.  Howie learned the electronic fence the first day and has not had a problem with it.  He does not have a problem with the part of the yard that has physical fencing either.  Howie does not like the cats in his foster home and  his foster family feels he should not go to a house with cats. 

Howie is a big loving boy who will bring much love and comfort into a home that loves dogs.  Although he is very happy here with his foster family, he would love to find and settle into his forever home.
