Pretty little BECCA is looking for a true rescue angel … preferably with a Starbucks franchise. Becca is a beautiful (slightly) orange field setter who LOVES her coffee. Caffe Latte? Cappuccino? Caramel Macchiato? It doesn’t matter; that steamed milk gets her every time. Just don’t try to trick her with milk in your tea because Becca loves her COFFEE and she definitely knows the difference. If you walk away from a full coffee cup, the contents always seem to magically disappear. Weekend mornings will find Becca lounging on the sofa, waiting for her weekly coffee date with her foster mom. A leisurely morning with a creamy cuppa joe and some girl talk is Becca’s idea of heaven.

Becca weighs 38 lbs. and is about 5 years old. Becca has the most gorgeous ears and tail; however, Becca’s lovely expressive eyes are often clouded with tension and worry. This sweet girl can’t tell us the trauma she’s suffered but it is quite evident when you look into those dark eyes. Becca has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) much like the detective played by Tony Shalhoub on the TV series Monk. Sweet Becca worries about many aspects of life. While Monk compulsively cleans and organizes, Becca looks for solace in repetitive behaviors - she walks in circles. When Becca sees anything out of the ordinary, she sounds the alarm and starts circling. When the stress gets too intense, she jumps into your lap for comfort and protection. Becca is on medication for OCD, which costs about $10 a month. Becca will remain on the meds for her entire life.

Becca is hoping for a structured daily routine in a coffee-lover’s calm, quiet home where she can feel safe, build trust, and learn to find inner peace. A perfect home for Becca would be with a mature single woman or retired couple. Children and men make Becca very nervous; however, given time, consistency, and patience, she can learn to trust kind quiet men and calm responsible teenagers. Becca is obsessive about cats and other small critters, so a home without cats, birds or pocket pets is a must. Becca is nervous around other dogs and she doesn't like to share her person. If you would chat with Becca over her morning coffee, I think she’d say that she needs to be your one and only.

Becca’s problems may seem overwhelming. How do you care for a distressed little soul? Actually, it’s not so hard. Becca requires understanding and consistency, but her special needs are not that difficult to meet. Do you have a caring heart, a sensitive spirit? Are you willing to make a commitment to help a rescue dog succeed? Are you able:

  • To give Becca a structured routine?
  • To use soft voices?
  • To teach her with kindness and positive rewards?
  • To praise her often and lavishly?
  • To stay outside with Becca when she is afraid?
  • To forego scolding when she does something wrong?
  • To patiently teach her the right thing to do?
  • To remember not to force her into doing anything she is uncomfortable with?
  • To encourage her to be brave and explore on her own?
  • To share your life (and your morning coffee) with her?
  • To be content to earn her trust on Becca’s terms and at Becca’s pace rather than your own?

But most of all, will you love her with all your heart?

While Becca may never be like the dog next door, she has an abundance of love to give. With the right family, she can thrive and grow and be happy. Becca is making strides every day. She has come so far from the timid frightened dog that first arrived at her foster home, but she still has a journey ahead. Are you willing to lead Becca on her journey toward peace and happiness? Are you a Starbucks’ rescue angel in disguise?
