Introducing ACES 2008 Fundraising Coordinator

PattyWe're excited to announce that Patty Thompson has agreed to take on the volunteer role of ACES Fundraising Coordinator for 2008.  Patty has already been busy working with Lucky Fiona on a custom-made ACES collar with a portion of sales donated to ACES.  Please join us in welcoming Patty!  When she asks for help, please volunteer your assistance whenever possible.  We're very excited about fundraising for 2008!

Meet Patty Thompson

2005 was a memorable year for me as I got my first new car, a tetanus shot and my first English setter.  My husband Jerry and I wanted a second dog for a lot of reasons like company for our lab mix, another hunting buddy, and just plain more fun in our lives.  English setters seemed to be just right for our lifestyle.  So, off we naively trotted to find a breeder of field English setters.  Once we found the right one we picked her out of a line-up over email and rode home cuddling the cutest puppy you ever saw.

PattyDogsAfter raising many English labs over the years we soon realized that this dog was a whole new ball of wax.  She was birdy and headstrong but also super affectionate, amazing in the field and made the funniest 'Arrooo-roo' greeting in the morning.  Needless to say, she challenged us to be better dog trainers.

At the same time our sister-in-law studying for vet school adopted a boxer from a rescue group.  We were curious if there was an English setter rescue.  Then we came across ACES.  We had no idea there were so many English setters without homes.  After reading so many wonderful stories, meeting some of the exceptional folks at ACES, and falling head over heels for our sweet girl -- I knew that I wanted to help ACES as much as I could.  It seemed natural to lend a hand in fundraising as my current non-profit job in environmental conservation often calls for this kind of work.  I'm thrilled to help coordinate ACES fundraising efforts and I welcome input from one and all on ways we can all keep supporting the important work ACES is doing.
